The repair method shown in the tutorial
The video demonstrates a delicate repair for a handmade elastic scrunchie with a broken decorative acetate part. The method uses acetone as a material-specific bonding agent on the fractured edges only. It is not a general care gesture and must remain limited to the exact break line.
Prepare a ventilated workstation
Work in a well-ventilated area and gather a small glass or ceramic bowl, a fine brush, and a very small quantity of acetone.
Pour only a little acetone
The tutorial shows a small amount placed in a shallow bowl so the brush can be loaded lightly and precisely.
Brush the broken acetate edges
Apply a thin layer of acetone to the two broken sides of the decorative element, using a light gesture and avoiding the surrounding elastic whenever possible.
Align the motif carefully
Bring the two parts together neatly so the flower or decorative shape remains balanced and visually clean once repaired.
Press for 30 to 35 seconds
Maintain steady pressure for about half a minute so the acetate begins to fuse at the join.
Leave the scrunchie to dry overnight
Set the repaired elastic scrunchie aside and let it dry for one full night before using it again.
Important caution
This method is suitable only for acetate-to-acetate repair on a clean break. Acetone is a strong solvent and should never be spread across the polished exterior or used casually on other materials. If the elastic is damaged, if parts are missing, or if the decorative element cannot be aligned properly, it is safer to contact MC Davidian’s after-sales service.
